Since 1996 the Clipper Race has developed over 6,000 people into competent ocean racers and built a reputation for showcasing brands and building international trade links between partners and host destinations.  

What we are looking for:

Clipper Ventures is looking for an established Head of Brand Marketing to lead the marketing efforts across all Clipper Ventures departments including Clipper Events, SKIRR, and pillar brand Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in markets around the world.

UK based, this is an all-encompassing marketing role, working across key marketing disciplines including brand management, digital/performance marketing, social media, email marketing, print and OOH advertising, and commercial activation.

We have recently made significant investment into a digital transformation project that has involved a transformative upgrade of integrated marketing systems, including, a new CRM platform [Salesforce], email marketing platform and website (set to launch in Q4). This role will therefore play a crucial role in the growth and development of all Clipper Ventures brands with customer-centric marketing at its core.

The successful candidate will report into the Managing Director and will be responsible for constantly evaluating the marketing offering and ensuring the success of campaigns across the company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing the marketing strategy for Clipper Ventures and its key businesses; Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, SKIRR Adventures, Clipper Events, Hamble School of Yachting, Clipper China, analysing and using consumer data to inform insights.
  • As needed, develop new brands, evolve existing brand offers and when necessary set out the strategy to correct brand positioning.
  • Responsible for setting the marketing and brand goals, managing the budget, and delivering the marketing objectives relating to each key area of business. E.g., Crew recruitment for Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
  • Conceptualise persuasive campaign ideas and themes which will be effective around the world.
  • Accountable for day to day delivery of the brand and marketing output, including Brand Marketing, Digital Marketing, Content Marketing, Email and Performance Marketing – resulting truly connected ideas, aligned to business goals.
  • Oversee the delivery of the graphic design requirements, both internally and via agency support as required. Create original written content used in ad copy etc.
  • Effective delivery of all paid advertising, commercial activation, and tactical campaigns. Responsible for the planning, buying and campaign measurement of all media, including outside of the UK when appropriate.
  • Management of supplier and agency relationships, procurement, scope of work and budget.
  • Lead the team to develop, manage and deliver marketing campaigns on brief, on time and to budget with clear goals in mind.
  • Manage marketing outputs in line with the partnerships department in terms of contractual rights of key partners and suppliers.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to the marketing team.
  • Effectively work as part of the broader marketing and Communications team, aligning message and leading brand positioning initiatives.

Key requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience of leading and managing a marketing department within a an international B2C environment, preferably with sports marketing exposure.
  • A breadth of marketing experience and knowledge across digital media, performance marketing, brand and content.
  • Track record of delivering commercially successful marketing campaigns.
  • Confident and effective leader with strong people management skills and, the ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Brand management and new product development experience.
  • A keen eye for detail. Salesforce / Marketing Cloud experience.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills and the ability to deliver multiple projects simultaneously managing stakeholder’s expectations and prioritising workloads.
  • A creative thinker, comfortable with delivering ideas away from the traditional but equally at home with conventional marketing techniques.
